The Gateway Blog Page
This month, the blog page on our website was renewed and opened up to the whole Gateway family, including parents and team members, or those who work in any capacity with children with needs. The aim is to provide a safe space to express themselves freely, share personal stories and experiences, inspire and encourage others, and create a community to provide strength and support. The blog was kickstarted with a piece by our founder, Indira Bodani, with her heartfelt story as a mother of a child with difficulties, and having an anchor in her family to help her through the challenges she's faced. We've had more parents contribute their personal stories since then.

Parent Engagement
Building Capacity in Parents

"Sharing our stories" at the Parent Support Group meeting
We had two very special guests join us for this session. The first guest was Shalini Sawhny, the mum of a child with needs living in the Netherlands. She used to write a blog and shared with us how she used writing as a strategy to support her and reflect on what was happening with her son. The second guest was Heeru Bhojwani who is a writer/blogger and is also the librarian at American School of Bombay (ASB). Heeru took us through a writing activity to get us started on our writing journey! We hope that through this session our team and parents will start writing and sharing their stories and journeys on our blog page!

Building Capacity in Students

Guest Lecturers in High School Classes

Manish Alagh, student Saisha’s father, works for Kotak life Insurance and graciously accepted our invite to be a guest lecturer for a Business Studies class. He explained a chapter on "Insurance and its various types" to our NIOS 10th Students.

In order to make learning more real life and meaningful, we invited Dr. Meena Narayan and Gateway school’s Nurse Madhavi to be guest speakers for our unit on “Health, Hygiene and Safety” in the High School Adaptive Program. Students had an opportunity to practice the skills of interacting with a doctor, communicating symptoms and wearing and removing a mask. They also looked at first aid kit items and their uses, and understood basic first aid procedures.

The NIOS 12th students are covering the topic of self-employed professionals and small businesses as part of Business Studies. We invited Tejal Mathur who is not only one of our parents but also an accomplished interior designer to share her journey as a self-employed professional and small business owner of “Tejal Mathur Design”. She shared the road from setup to the success of her small business. Through this lecture, the student gained more clarity on the topic and received insights about catering to different clients, how detailed contracts are created and why they are crucial, and building great teams. The conversations with the students also empowered them to reflect on some vital life lessons regarding focus, hard work, and commitment.
